Andreas Svensson

How did The Spyders get together?

I met Carl Larsson at a nightclub in Gothenburg. We found out that we had very much the same musical influences. We decided to put a band together.

Markus and Mischa (pre. guitarist) joined us a half year after that. Andreas Hartman replaced Carl on the bass guitar in -98 and Alabama joined The Spyders in the autumn -99. Mischa left the band at that time aswell.

Who came up with the name of the group?

I came up with “The Spiders”. To spell it with an Y came from a record with James Taylor's Quartet, The Money Spyder.

What are the groups musical intentions?

Primary, to have fun, to play the kind of music as we like and to write great songs.

Secondary, to reach out to people who are interested in the same kind of music as we and to give them something new.

Do The Spyders prefer being in studio or to play live?

Both. We like to be in the studio to develop our song and our sound. In the studio you can try things you don't have the opportunity to, during the rehearsing. And it's a great relief to get a good result. We love to play live as well, cause of the energy and to get response from the audience.

Where did you record the EP?

We recorded it in Rivertone Studios in Gothenburg. It runs by Daniel Veres and Simon Lindecrantz who are working both as engineers and producers.

How long did it take to record?

It took a weekend to record and about two nights to do the mix.

What do you remember most about the recording of the EP?

We had a guy who should play the sitar on Summer Of Love. We hadn't really heard him play before we invited him to the studio, but we thought he was pretty good.

It showed that he wasn't. He had big problems with the tuning of the instrument and to keep the rhythm. It all sounded awful. He was very gentle and nice and tried to make us satisfied for hours. At last we said that we were.

Later on I laid a backwards tremolo-guitar on the parts that he should have been played. That sounded great! We still haven't told him that we never kept to recording with him...

What kind of music do you listen to these days?

We all are listen to all kinds of music. Including all from jazz to today's pop music. Right now I'm listening to the latest album with Teenage Fanclub, Howdy. I think they are the best band from the 90's. And I'm always in to 60's garage and 70's powerpop. We all like that.
